PlayStation Virtual Reality Launch Day Revealed
With around 40 million PlayStation 4s out there, will VR capability for the system help virtual reality go mainstream? Looks like we’ll find out soon as Sony Interactive Entertainment America used its annual E3 press conference on Monday to announce its actual VR rollout date.
Oct. 13 will be the North American launch day for the PlayStation virtual reality system (PS VR). The PS4s already in gamers' homes are PS VR-capable, according to the company, but of course VR functionality requires a PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation camera as well. The headset will retail at $399, which is currently less than Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.
“We expect to have more than 50 games available from launch in October 2016 until the end of the year,” the company says in a blog post from last March. SIEA also used the E3 press conference to unveil several new PS VR games, including Farpoint, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, and Batman: Arkham VR. PlayStation VR titles will reportedly range from around $10-$60.
