The Walls of Sound
Gold Star Recording Studios
ABOUT THE PROJECT

LOGLINE
From a tiny Hollywood studio with big ambition, Gold Star Recording Studios became the heartbeat of American pop—where Stan Ross and David Gold, armed with ingenuity and moxie, created the revolutionary “Wall of Sound” and helped define the music that generations still sing today.

SYNOPSIS
Gold Star spanned the four most important decades in American Pop music, which included the turbulent 60’s and 70’s. THE WALLS OF SOUND, takes the audience for a trip back in time with owner/pioneers Stan Ross & David Gold to Los Angeles’ ground zero for Rock ‘n’ Roll. The demographic audience for the documentary extends from today’s teenagers, who learned about the music of the 50’s-80’s from listening to their parents’ music, to the baby boomers who remember the songs when they were first released. All these generations will appreciate the guerrilla tactics used by Stan Ross and Dave Gold to create a successful business with virtually nothing except their skills, imagination, creativity, and moxie.

The hits from Gold Star are so notable that many in the audience will join in to tap or sing their favorite hit songs. There is much nostalgia regarding this period in the music business but this is one of the only films to focus on the one LA recording studio that had its own unique sound, literally the “Wall of Sound”, with its custom-designed echo chamber and creative recording techniques. This story touches on music from the swing era of the late 40’s, progresses to the Rockabilly/Rhythm & Blues period of the 50’s; leading to the evolution of Rock & Roll in the 60’s & 70’s and into the early 80’s.
