LOGLINE
Lia (32) travels to Ibiza to work as a maid in luxurious summer rental houses to financially support her parents back in Brazil. Enjoying her newfound freedom on the paradisiacal island, Lia is determined to take power over her body and her future when she is suddenly confronted with the news that she might be infertile.

SYNOPSIS
UNE FILLE BIEN (A Good Girl) is an international fiction feature co-written by Swiss mother-and-son team, Christine Kathari and Maxime Kathari, and produced by Chachi Hauser and Dea Gjinovci with Astrae Productions. Maxime is a director and cinematographer based in Paris, whose short “O som da casa,” which he directed, shot, and edited, screened at 2016 International Film Festival Rotterdam and won the Best Swiss Camera Award at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. The jury was “impressed by how delicately the camera captures the emotions of two people, giving insight into the mystery of life through the eyes of the protagonists.”

Maxime’s cinematography work includes feature documentaries Wake Up on Mars (2020, dir. Dea Gjinovci, Tribeca Film Festival) and Hollow Tree (in post, dir. Kira Akerman, supported by Sundance). Variety writes, “cinematographer Maxime Kathari films with stunning serenity.” Maxime’s mom, Christine, has worked with him in the writing and editing of all of his short films and they’ve developed a very strong filmmaking collaboration.

UNE FILLE BIEN is their first feature, a portrait of Lia, a woman wrestling with her own desires as she comes to terms with the potentiality of her body. The film seeks to grant a woman’s questions about her ability to become pregnant the stakes often given to stories about men’s philosophical questions and psychological strife, while placing the story from the point of view of Lia and her biological condition, making her intimacy visible.

UNE FILLE BIEN was selected for the 2021 Holland Film Meeting at the The Netherlands Film Festival.
