ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
They were professionally trained childhood actors; destined to be stars. None of them made it. Twenty years later, one woman goes back to Baltimore to find out what happened to their dreams.
SYNOPSIS
This documentary will follow the adult lives of eleven former members of the Baltimore School for the Arts’ theater ensemble. In 2000, they graduated from one of the most prestigious conservatories in the country with dreams of stardom; now, their lives look much different than what they’d imagined.
Meagan, the filmmaker, is home from Paris, France for their 20th high school reunion and a wedding; and decides to document old friends’ new lives to uncover what happened to their dreams of stardom—and who, or what, is responsible for their destruction. In the process, she learns of broken families, addiction, unreliable mentors, and a host of other obstacles and decisions that kept her friends’ ambitions from becoming reality. In an act of redemption, she sets out to right these wrongs and ignite her friends’ love of acting once again. But not all dreams are meant to come true; nor are her friends always welcoming with Meagan’s desire to dive into the past.
As she tries to push her friends to new limits, Meagan’s ensemble forces her to turn the camera inward and reevaluate her own life choices. She left Baltimore eighteen years ago and while her friends are married with families, she is alone. Or is she? As the ensemble gathers around her and she begins to listen, Meagan begins to understand what they have always been there to teach her.
Using animation, motion graphics, archived footage, home videos, real-time footage, and character interviews, THROUGH THE EYES OF OTHERS will explore where lost dreams lie, how new dreams are born, and the people who make life worth dreaming about.
