    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    LOGLINE
    THE FUTURISTS is a sci-fi documentary about real-life Latinx visionaries who are creating the world of tomorrow.

    SYNOPSIS
    THE FUTURISTS follows the journey of Quemuel “Q” Arroyo from a life-altering mountain bike accident at age 18 to his current role, at just 33, as the first-ever Chief Accessibility Officer of NYC’s transit authority. Right now Q is putting in motion a $30 billion plan to make the US’s largest system fully accessible.

    Q is creating the city of the future but he is also grappling with his own disability. Can he heal himself by changing the world for millions of others? Will his plan succeed? And who can he turn to for guidance? As he encounters obstacles, he seeks out other Futurists like Franklin Chang Díaz, the first Latin American NASA astronaut; Gabby Rivera, creator of the first queer, Latina Marvel superhero; and climate justice leader Elizabeth Yeampierre. Each new character opens up a world of possibility, and together Q and the Futurists provide an inspiring, and much needed, look at the remarkable range of Latinx dreams.
