ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
A formerly flamboyant hairdresser escapes from his nursing home and takes a long walk across a small town to style a dead woman’s hair.
SYNOPSIS
SWAN SONG is the final installment in writer/director Todd Stephens’s Ohio Trilogy after EDGE OF SEVENTEEN and GYPSY 83. Udo Kier is attached to star as Mister Pat Pitsenbarger, a retired hairdresser in failing health who has given up on life in a small-town Sandusky, Ohio nursing home.
Lost, lonely, and resentful, Pat’s world is turned upside-down when a recently deceased former client’s will requests he do her final hairdo. Once a brilliant stylist, Pat doubts he still has what it takes to rise to Rita Parker Sloan’s high standards. More importantly, he wonders if he can overcome his anger at his old friend for firing him all those years ago.
Bound by guilt and honor, Pat flees the nursing home and sets out on the long walk across town for the funeral home. But before he arrives, Pat must gather the beauty supplies necessary for the daunting task. On a journey that is both comical and bittersweet, Pat will encounter characters who cause him to confront a life he long ago left behind. In the end, an old queen must decide whether he can live again by styling his dead client’s hair.
SWAN SONG is currently in post-production and stars Udo Kier, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Urie, and Linda Evans.
