LOGLINE
RUFUS: REQUIEM will discover who Rufus Wainwright really is, how he’s been shaped, how he’s survived, and where he’s going.
SYNOPSIS
Rufus Wainwright is a singular talent like no other. Born into an extended musical dynasty, the McGarrigle/Wainwrights, active as a musician and artist practically from the time he could walk, he is a uniquely trailblazing pop star. RUFUS: REQUIEM will be the first creative feature documentary about this Canadian-American legend, whom some refer to as this generation’s Stephen Sondheim. Elton John has called him the best songwriter on the planet.
Rufus is also an artist who continually stretches himself in challenging new ways. At the heart of our film is an ambitious new project: his Dream Requiem. Asymphonic idea for orchestra, and chorus, the Dream Requiem is based on the poem “Darkness” by Lord Byron; it’s a Requiem for the human touch, togetherness and the human voice.
