ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
RISE OF THE ELECTRIC CAR wraps up the trilogy begun with Who Killed the Electric Car? (2006) and Revenge of the Electric Car (2011) as EVs step into the global limelight.
SYNOPSIS
Less than 20 years since thousands of early advanced American EVs were summarily crushed, the technology has boomeranged back. Countries, consumers, and even automotive companies have embraced them, some of them even declaring the end is near for gasoline cars. Could it be true?
What happened to the gas engine, the juggernaut that built the modern world and then nearly destroyed it? How did electrics come on so fast, so furiously? Will EV technology (advanced batteries and motors) be able to scale to the mass adoption with a cleaner, faster, and affordable future footprint — or will they come burdened with a new set of ever expanding issues?
Rise cross examines the the makers, the movers, and the behind the scenes players of the greatest mobility coup since horses gave way to horseless carriages. Traveling from oil fields to giga-factories, from battery recycling plants to lead contaminated neighborhoods, from cobalt mines to lithium seas will unearth more answers to these questions. The challenges and potential of this new mobility era are just beginning.
