    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    LOGLINE
    A young filmmaker consumed by YouTube must confront her phone addiction and uncover her voice within a youth-led digital wellbeing movement.

    SYNOPSIS
    OUR SUBSCRIPTION TO ADDICTION is a film about hope. It’s the story of how I went from 10 years of self-sabotage, loneliness, and falling down endless YouTube rabbit holes, to realizing that the generation most affected by phone addiction is also the one that will solve it. This is the first film of its kind to show young people that change is possible—if we act together.

    The film begins at my lowest point, trapped in the cycle of digital addiction. As I searched for answers, I discovered a growing movement of young activists leading the way. Through interviews with emerging, trailblazing leaders, I uncover powerful youth-led solutions—from social media detoxes in schools to pushing for real tech regulation in D.C.

    The story peaks at a dramatic moment: I stand face-to-face with Mark Zuckerberg at a Congressional hearing, confronting him and other tech CEOs about their failure to protect kids online. As the movement builds, I find my place in it and discover my own personal practice for digital wellbeing. The film calls all young people to take control of their relationship with social media—because we are the generation that will change the narrative.

    The film has been awarded grant funding and mentorship from Netflix’s The Social Dilemma, The Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund (including Prince Harry and Meghan Markles’ Archewell Foundation and Melinda Gates’ Pivotal Ventures), and LookUp.live.
