ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
A woman is pushed to confront her fears and delve into the deepest corners of her psyche when her fiancé inexplicably starts behaving like a dog.
SYNOPSIS
Lilia Le Dieu and Konstantin Pivovar are an award-winning directing duo from Belarus known for their evocative storytelling and dramas defined by ambiguous locations, anti-heroes, and effortless compositions (Breadcrumbs, Iconic). MY LEMON PUPPY is their next ambitious project that pushes the boundaries of the short film format. Starring Greek actress Penelope Tsilika (Little England, Kala Azar) and British actor James Bloor (“Barkskins,” Leatherface). Shot on 16mm film stock in the historic city of Łódź, Poland, MY LEMON PUPPY is made by an acclaimed international team, including Brazilian cinematographer and AFI alumna Luisa Silva Dalé, Executive Producer Agata Trzebuchowska (lead actress in the Oscar-winning Ida), composer Juan Luqui (Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico,” HBO’s “The Last of Us”), and supervising sound editor Andrey Dergachev (Oscar®-nominated Leviathan, Loveless).
MY LEMON PUPPY explores the theme of vulnerability within a committed relationship. Enna and Amill share a deep devotion to each other, but as Enna struggles to open up, the cracks in their relationship begin to show. Enna’s internal conflict inevitably affects Amill, manifesting in an unexpected way. The filmmakers drew inspiration from the naturalistic cinematography of 1970s European cinema, aiming to create an organic visual style. Edited by renowned South Korean editor Ji Ye Won, the expressionistic choices reveal the complexities of seemingly ordinary people. With intimate performances and mesmerizing soundscapes, MY LEMON PUPPY is a film that lingers for a while.
