    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    LOGLINE
After busy widowed father Miles puts his teen daughter into a drug rehab, he’s forced to attend their mandatory parent workshop and face his own role in this “family disease”.

    SYNOPSIS
Widower Miles Aaronson (40’s) is a busy LA TV director about to get his big break into features. His daughter Zoe is a bright high school senior. Miles knows Zoe has dabbled a few times with drugs and he’s exerted a lot of control over her to make sure it never goes further. But when a drug therapist gets Zoe to open up, Miles is shocked to learn she’s been using hard drugs daily, including heroin. The therapist recommends Zoe be sent immediately to a rehab ranch in Utah. Miles is worried this will jeopardize Zoe’s graduation and college acceptance, but he realizes a quick 30-day stint over Christmas would barely be noticed. Just after Zoe’s sent there, Miles is informed by Gillian (50’s), a dynamic, colorful, and inspirational rehab counselor, that at least one parent must attend her four-day parent workshop. Miles refuses, saying he’s too busy. But when Gillian tells him they’ll have to send Zoe home, Miles has no choice. He reluctantly arrives at the ranch in denial of Zoe’s deeper issues. Over the four days, Gillian’s unconventional techniques slowly begin to open Miles up to the realization that Zoe isn’t the only one who must change.

This is not your typical addiction story focused on the substance user. This is a father’s story, inspired by the writer-director’s own experience with his daughter’s struggle with drugs. It’s a dramatic story, filled with some humor and much emotion. Told by award winning feature and TV director Mark Rosman, his passion project intends to bring to parents, relatives, or friends of someone struggling with addiction both healing and this valuable insight: once the behavior of the person involved with the drug user starts to change, that can often open the door to recovery for the person with addiction.
