ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
A feature-length documentary that provides an intimate look at the relationships between aging parents and the adult children who care for them, examining the challenges they face and the solutions they discover along the way.
SYNOPSIS
Leading with humor and heart, IT’S NOT A BURDEN: THE HUMOR AND HEARTACHE OF RAISING ELDERLY PARENTS, provides an intimate look at the multi-layered and endlessly-complex relationships between aging parents and the adult children who care for them. Emmy-nominated Filmmaker Michelle Boyaner shares her very personal journey caring for her long-divorced aging parents (her larger-than-life Mother battling dementia, her Father, a hoarder) while weaving in supporting stories from 20 other families, showing the universal issues we face around the topic of caring for our aging parents and reminding us we’re not alone.
Our goal is to take the film out on a series of free community screenings in approximately fifteen cities across the United States in 2022. Each covid-safe event on the tour will include a screening of the film, followed by a special-guest moderated panel featuring the filmmakers and select families from the film sharing their personal experiences and a Q&A discussion with the audience. After the screening and discussion, the attendees will have the opportunity to explore a curated collection of location-specific resources and support in the lobby at each venue.
