LOGLINE
On the night of their mother’s funeral, two estranged siblings reconnect in their childhood treehouse and discover she was the one keeping them apart.
SYNOPSIS
It’s time to grow up. In the dead of night, a single light comes on in a treehouse in the middle of the woods. Henry and Jade have come home. Called back for their mother’s funeral, this night is the first time they’ve seen each other in 4 years.
When Henry reveals the real reason he left home all those years ago, secrets come to light in a gust of revelation and ghosts of the past return to make this night one that will alter the course of the two siblings’ lives and relationship permanently.
HENRY’S KINGDOM is a queer story fueled by mommy issues, sympathy baskets, one sad bottle of vodka, and the weight of childhood trauma. But even more than that, it’s about the people in our lives who make us feel truly seen. Those who hold a mirror up, even to our ugly parts.
Written by and starring actor and breakout writer Tucker Boggs, and directed by filmmaker and social justice advocate Talon Reed Cooper, HENRY’S KINGDOM brings together a team of LGBTIQA+ filmmakers to tell a coming-out(ish) story of growing up queer in the Midwest in the early 2000s. It aims to subvert the modern belief that our trauma is what makes us, because only by taking ownership over our lives can we be truly free.
