    Expedition 383
    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    LOGLINE
29 international climate scientists battle heavy seas in the Pacific, searching for answers to the climate crisis. Meanwhile, Earth is suffering the hottest year on record, heading towards extinction.

    SYNOPSIS
Expedition 383 transports us to the roughest waters on Planet Earth—Point Nemo—where 29 scientists from 14 countries endure a grueling sea voyage to fulfill an urgent mandate: extract million-year-old fossils from the ocean floor for critical clues about climate change. In the same year that’s seen 77 people killed by Super Cyclone Fani in India—just months after California’s deadliest wildfire season and weeks before a potentially deadly European heat wave—this dedicated group of sedimentologists, paleontologists, and geochemists endure homesickness and seasickness to learn what our planet has to teach us about past climate upheaval—and whether such knowledge is enough to save us from extinction. Leaving behind newborn children, angsty teenagers, and frantic wedding plans while contending with myriad social and cultural differences on the open seas, these scientists comprise a modern day tale of ‘Noah’s Ark,’ one that reveals a simple truth: scientists are the real heroes trying to save us from the pending flood.
