ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
Unearthing never-before-seen historical archives, Felix Mack traces the lineage of trans history in BEYOND THE TIPPING POINT. This documentary shines a light on the communities where trans people find themselves and each other.
SYNOPSIS
In 2014, Time Magazine declared the advent of the “Transgender Tipping Point.” With the majority of the world being unaware of transgender history, this was the first time most Americans had considered the existence of trans people in society.
This documentary explores the ways we have survived, cultivated community, and shared resources in a world actively seeking to erase us. Contrary to the current conservative media narrative, transgender people have existed since the beginning of time and have always found ways to find each other and share resources.
This project will focus on community building efforts in 20th and 21st century America prior to the release of the Time Magazine article in order to showcase the joy and fortitude that existed within our spaces before the world at large began to scrutinize and politicize our existence.
BEYOND THE TIPPING POINT will use the Tipping Point as a mirror to hold up to both the past and present, in order to ask some big questions. What did this moment of national reckoning change for the transgender community? How are our spaces transformed as a result of it? What has such increased public interest in our community brought us, for better or worse?
By unveiling a history that is largely untold, this project will give the mainstream public greater access and understanding into who we are and where we are coming from as well as offering younger trans generations hope by introducing them to our shared heritage.
