ABOUT THE PROJECT
LOGLINE
A planeload of Air Force wives must avert World War III while balancing infidelities, spies, martinis and fondue.
SYNOPSIS
A Cold War thriller/comedy set in 1973, ATOMIC FONDUE is an upcoming American independent fiction feature film from award-winning filmmaker Dan Mirvish and his team of experienced collaborators.
Mirvish came up with the nugget of the idea and developed the story with Matthias Jeske in Omaha, and screenwriter Christine Vartoughian in New York. Working with producer Kai Swanson, with help from producer Dana Altman, the team will shoot the film during the summer of 2026, with fundraising and casting leading up to that. Composer Luis Guerra is already on board and has even started working on the music.
No independent film project is guaranteed to be successful either critically or commercially. But ATOMIC FONDUE has a tremendous amount going for it! Director Mirvish and the production team are very well known and respected in the Hollywood community, and are confident they can get an amazing, recognizable cast for this film. Dan’s unique career has straddled the worlds of independent feature film directing and Washington-based political and historical satire.
His prior films (18½, Bernard and Huey, Between Us, Open House, Omaha (the movie)) were critically praised films with famous actors that all had theatrical releases, played on streamers (like Netflix, Showtime and Starz), went to tons of festivals and had success in subsequent international, physical media, airline and other ancillary markets. With 18½ in particular, Dan and his team showed how to craft a 70s period political thriller on a relatively low budget.
The time is perfect for a high stakes, but funny, take on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, feminism, Russian relations, defense gender policy, veterans affairs, and of course, fondue. Once complete, ATOMIC FONDUE will continue to have long-tail resonance as these kinds of issues will stay relevant in both the US, and around the world.
