A Documentary Film Touring Program Sparking Engagement in Four Key States:
Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin and Michigan
Community Conversations is a film touring program for filmmakers and their films, curated by The Film Collaborative and New Day Films, and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Sarah Hancock Fund at Vanguard Charitable. The tour is comprised of venues and program partners in four critical U.S. states; Wisconsin, Ohio, Texas, and now, new for 2021, expands into Michigan, as well.
The starkness of the 2020 Election Map proves the point, the heart of the ideological divide in America rests in a few highly polarized states. Operating in the epicenter of this divide is The Film Collaborative’s Community Conversations program, now in Year Two (pilot program launched in 2019). Community Conversations brings solutions-oriented documentary programs on themes of social, environmental, and economic justice to local communities to increase understanding, build empathy, and encourage action to help us bridge the divide and build towards the future.
The 2021 Community Conversations has been adapted to fit the COVID-19 era and is now entirely offered as a virtual touring program, with the added advantage of operating at greatly reduced overhead budget than the 2019/2020 program. Bookings are now open for the Spring and Summer of 2021.
Institutions can screen the films for their audiences and constituencies virtually, in set time periods, followed by virtual Q&As with the filmmakers.
Listed below is the 2021 slate of participating films, including links to their synopses, trailers, and preview links (password required).
2019/2020 films are also listed below and are likely still available for booking as well. To contact, and for all bookings and further questions, please be in touch with our program coordinator Michael Kuehnert (this link will also CC program producer Jeffrey Winter).
