Londorf House – A Commemorative Initiative
    ABOUT THE PROJECT

    LOGLINE
Commemorative events in September 2022 in Londorf, Germany, with descendants of former Jewish residents engaging in a meaningful conversation with descendants of local generations of all ages.

    SYNOPSIS
Digitale ErinnerungsWerkstatt gGmbH is collaborating with the local Museum der Rabenau, a local history museum in Londorf, to develop a memorial and an ongoing program to ensure the local Jewish history is not forgotten and learning about it can be ensured far into the future. Londorf’s Jewish community was sizeable and present for two centuries until the last Jewish families and citizens were deported during the Holocaust in September 1942. For the 80th anniversary of the last deportation, commemorative and educational events will be planned and implemented. Families of former Jewish residents are invited and will be able to visit their former family homes, and their families will be honored with the unveiling of a memorial.

LONDORF HOUSE — A COMMEMORATIVE INITIATIVE hopes to develop engagements that enlighten young students and adults and strengthen their comprehension of local history and the importance of remembering it by connecting with descendants of former Jewish residents who are interested in an engagement and conversation. Commemorative and educational materials—digital and analog—will be produced and launched in September and available for ongoing local engagements. While a memorial will be unveiled, a longer-term goal is to build out a local educational location and program in Londorf, a village with a former sizeable Jewish presence, providing the opportunity to raise understandings of difficult pasts on a personal and very relatable scale for current and future students, and life long learners.
