In Signature Move, a secret new romance with Alma forces Zaynab, a thirty-something Pakistani, Muslim lesbian, to confront her complicated relationship with her recently widowed mother while taking up Lucha-style wrestling, in this comedic and heartfelt look at love. Shabana Azmi, the “Meryl Streep of India” plays the mother, and Michael Shannon is executive producer.
Needless to say, the recent political events in the United States have made this film and its normalization of the immigrant experience especially relevant and timely. We are confident that a large segment of US and global audiences are going to LOVE this movie, especially since its message is one of joy and humor.
While the film has large and under-served built-in target audiences—Mexican/Latino Americans, South Asian Americans, LGBTQ, fans of female pro wrestling— the film has breakout potential, especially with millennial and pre-millennial female audiences.
If you will be attending SXSW, we’d love for you to join us for a celebration immediately following the world premiere on Saturday, March 11 at Gibson Street Bar, 1109 South Lamar Blvd., from 2:30pm-6pm. Please (email Brian Hieggelke, Producer) to RSVP.

ABOUT THE FILM:
SIGNATURE MOVE is a comedic and heartfelt look at modern families and the complexities of love in its many forms. Zaynab (Fawzia Mirza) is a Pakistani, Muslim lawyer living in Chicago who begins a new romance with Alma (Sari Sanchez), a confident Mexican-American woman. Zaynab’s recently widowed mother Parveen (Shabana Azmi) has moved in and spends her days watching Pakistani TV dramas while searching for a potential husband for her only daughter. Alma’s mother is a former professional Luchadora, which Zaynab finds fascinating, as she has recently taken up lucha-style wrestling with a former pro wrestler. Zaynab tries to keep her secrets from her mother, who knows more than she lets on.
