ABOUT THE FILM:
As leader of the world’s only LGBT political party, Bemz Benedito dreams of being the first transgender woman in the Philippine Congress. But in a predominantly Catholic nation, rallying for LGBT representation in the halls of Congress is not an easy feat. Bemz and her eclectic team of queer political warriors must rethink traditional campaign strategies to amass support from unlikely places. Taking their equality campaign to small-town hair salons and regional beauty pageants, the activists mobilize working-class trans hairdressers and beauty queens to join the fight against their main political opponent, a homophobic evangelical preacher, and prove to the Filipino electorate that it’s time to take the rights of LGBT people seriously. But as outsiders trying to get inside the system, will they have to compromise their political ideals in order to win? Culminating on election day, OUT RUN provides a unique look into the challenges LGBT people face as they transition into the mainstream and fight for dignity, legitimacy, and acceptance across the globe.

ABOUT THE FILM:
THE LAST LAUGH is a feature documentary that proceeds from the premise that the Holocaust would seem to be an absolutely off-limits topic for comedy. But is it? History shows that even the victims of the Nazi concentration camps themselves used humor as a means of survival and resistance. Still, any use of comedy in connection with this horror risks diminishing the suffering of millions. So where is the line? If we make the Holocaust off limits, what are the implications for other controversial subjects—9/11, AIDS, racism—in a society that prizes freedom of speech?
Shot on Super 16mm, THE LAST LAUGH thoughtfully weaves together an intimate cinema verité portrait of Auschwitz survivor Renee Firestone alongside interviews with influential comedians and thinkers ranging from Mel Brooks, Sarah Silverman, and Gilbert Gottfried to authors Etgar Keret, Shalom Auslander, and Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, as well as archival material ranging from “The Producers” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” to clips of comics such as Louis CK, Joan Rivers, and Chris Rock, to newly discovered footage of Jerry Lewis’ never-released film Holocaust comedy “The Day the Clown Cried,” to rare footage of cabarets inside the concentration camps themselves. In doing so, THE LAST LAUGH offers fresh insights into the Holocaust in a way we haven’t seen before.
Created by the award-winning team of Ferne Pearlstein (“Sumo East and West” and "Imelda"), Amy Hobby (Academy Award nominee for “What Happened, Miss Simone?”), Anne Hubbell (“Gayby”), Robert Edwards (“One More Time” aka “When I Live My Life Over Again”) and Jan Warner (“Poetry of Resilience”).

ABOUT THE FILM:
BOONE captures the daily lives of farm founder Mookie Moss and fellow farmers Dana and Zac and as they work relentlessly, sunrise to sundown in order to sustain the fragile balance needed to support the land and animals they care deeply for. Mookie and his crew strive to continue their lifestyle of sustainability and self-reliance, but their passionate dedication is hindered by strict government laws.
There have been many experiential films that have come out over the past few years that prioritize sensory accuracy over conventional storytelling; films that rely on an emotional experience rather then information to guide viewers. In the plethora of farm films structured around advocacy, BOONE stands out; it’s cinematic and sensory approach explores this forgotten rural landscape and the harsh reality of a small farm trying to survive.

ABOUT THE FILM:
When the most powerful lobbyist in Florida discovers that the nanny has sexually abused his daughter, he harnesses his extraordinary political power to pass the toughest sex offender laws in the nation. UNTOUCHABLE chronicles his crusade, and its impact on the lives of several of the 800,000 people forced to live under the kinds of laws he has championed.
The film interweaves intimate portraits of men and women who have been branded sex offenders with the heartbreaking stories of those who have suffered sexual abuse. Through surprising revelations, the film defies expectations and challenges assumptions about danger, sexual abuse and the strategies we’ve employed to keep our children safe.
Ricocheting from the halls of power to the cardboard homes of a marginalized pariah people, UNTOUCHABLE digs deeply into the lives of those most affected by these laws to frame important questions about the politics of fear, the effectiveness of registries and our approach to supervising the people we fear most. It is a film that pushes viewers toward an uncomfortable place, requiring them to walk in the shoes of those who have suffered sexual abuse, but to still bear witness to the experiences of those we revile.
