Dear Colleagues:

Our congratulations to TFC Board of Advisors member Ted Hope for his closing a distribution deal for THE COLLABORATOR (directed by Martin Donovan). It's a very good film and we recommend it.

TFC Filmmaker Kimi Takesue's WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME opens theatrically TODAY in NYC. More info below.

TFC Blog update

We have two new blog posts for you this time! The first is about Pinterest and is written Sheri Candler, who will soon be taking on a larger role at TFC. You may also want to look at previous blogs in case you missed any…they are chock-full-of-good-distribution-intel.

The second blog is a breakdown by section of the distribution deals done out of Sundance 2012, written by Bryan Glick, a new member of the TFC family.

SXSW

TFC will be attending SXSW and we are thrilled to be representing Gayby at the festival.

TFC's Orly Ravid will moderate a SXSW panel entitled How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love VOD, Monday March 12 2:00 - 3:00 PM, Austin Convention Center, 4th Floor, Room 15.

Immediately after the panel TFC will be having a book signing of Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul presented by Prescreen, co-authored by Jon Reiss and Sheri Candler. The book signing will take place at 3:30 at the bookstore on the 4th floor of the convention center.

On a final note, we need to congratulate Aurora Guerrero and her Sundance 2012 film Mosquita y Mari (for which we brokered a distribution deal, designed the key art, and are handling festivals and the theatrical release) on her very own Microsoft Bing Commercial!

ABOUT THE FILM:
Kimi Takesue’s lyrical, observational documentary takes us to the streets, shops and countrysides of post-civil war Uganda, painting a portrait of a country rediscovering its human connections in peacetime. Eschewing a journalistic discussion of wartime atrocities and losses, Takesue allows such contextual information to quietly enter the frame, as her roving camera quietly observes the negotiations, rhythms and cycles of daily life in a new Uganda.

“An amazing journey...In her impressive documentary feature debut, Kimi Takesue interrogates the outsider's gaze while still offering an expansive wide-angle view of contemporary Uganda.”

—Eric Hynes, Time Out (Critic's Pick)

“Beautifully meditative...an uplifting observational documentary that plays on seeing and being seen.”

—Jay Weissberg, Variety

“Stellar!”

—Richard Porton, Cineaste

“Wonderfully composed images...A poetic corrective to lingering stereotypes.”

—Ernest Hardy, LA Weekly (Critics' Pick)

“Just as voiceover and story arcs are endemic to most theatrically distributed docs, exposition in most selections here is, by inverse convention, DIY. Thus you get the extraordinary postwar Ugandan dream flight of Kimi Takesue's WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME?, which begins by dropping us in medias res at a bustling curbside in Kampala before tunneling through bubbly weddings, soul-thrumming drum circles, a girls' weightlifting tournament, and more. Takesue's askew angles, sealed-off compositions, and embrace of returned glances foster the strange beauty, humor and disorientation so rare in the global glut of hard-drive-dump docs.”

—Nicolas Rapold, The Village Voice
