Dear Programmers:

TFC is extremely proud to be representing VITO, an important new documentary about pioneering LGBT activist Vito Russo. Best known as author of The Celluloid Closet, the first book to critique Hollywood’s portrayals of gays on screen (The Celluloid Closet was later adapted into a Sundance and Peabody Award-winning documentary feature by HBO), Russo was also an early active member of the Gay Activists Alliance, and founding member and pivotal force within ACT UP. His was a voice that needs to be heard and understood by anyone who cares about human dignity and civil rights.

Fresh from its WORLD PREMIERE at the NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL, this is a film that just can't be missed by anyone!

Directed by Jeffrey Schwarz (Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon and Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story). VITO is executive produced by Bryan Singer and features Lily Tomlin, Armistead Maupin, Larry Kramer, Bruce Vilanch, Michelangelo Signorile, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. HBO Executive Producer Sheila Nevins, HBO supervising producer John Hoffman.

HBO Documentary Films Presents an Automat Pictures Production.

Incisive and illuminating, this warm tribute to a key figure of the gay rights movement is both intimate and historically expansive.
