Dear Programmers,
We’ve been very busy here at The Film Collaborative! After attending Sundance with four films (THE HUNTING GROUND, THE ROYAL ROAD, THE TRIBE, and THE AMINA PROFILE), we’ve recently picked up another Sundance hit called (T)ERROR, which was awarded Sundance’s Special Jury Prize for Breakout First Feature! (T)ERROR has also been recently announced as a selection of the Tribeca Film Festival as well.
Also new on the docket is the Berlinale Teddy Award Winner for Best Documentary, THE NEW MAN by Aldo Garay. From Santa Barbara International and Big Sky Doc Fest comes THE YEAR WE THOUGHT ABOUT LOVE by Ellen Brodsky. Add to that fact that our newest Jeffrey Schwarz film TAB HUNTER CONFIDENTIAL is World Premiering at SXSW this weekend and we’ve got plenty of exciting new films to show you. If you haven’t checked out the new trailer for TAB HUNTER yet, scroll down and select the website link, and watch the trailer there. It’s fabulous!
Finally a shout-out to Jenni Olson’s THE ROYAL ROAD, which has been selected as the Closing Night film of Lincoln Center’s “Art of the Real” documentary series.

All best,
Jeffrey Winter

| | ABOUT THE FILM: (T)ERROR is the first documentary to place filmmakers on the ground during an active FBI counterterrorism sting operation. Through the perspective of “Shariff,” a 63-year-old Black revolutionary turned informant, viewers get an unfettered glimpse of the government’s counterterrorism tactics and the murky justifications behind them. Taut, stark and controversial, (T)ERROR illuminates the fragile relationships between individual and surveillance state in modern America, and asks who is watching the watchers?FESTIVALS 2015: Sundance (Special Jury Award - Break Out First Feature), Tribeca Film Festival FESTIVAL TERRITORIES The World EXHIBITION FORMATS DCP, Blu-Ray MORE INFO: chickeneggpics.org/film/terror

| | ABOUT THE FILM: What happens when a diverse group of LGBTQ youth dares to be “out” on stage to reveal their lives and their loves?
THE YEAR WE THOUGHT ABOUT LOVE goes behind the scenes of one of the oldest queer youth theaters in America, with our camera crew slipping into classrooms, kitchens, subways, and rehearsal rooms with this fearless and endearing troupe. Boston-based True Colors OUT Youth Theater transforms daily struggles into performance for social change. With wit, candor, and attitude, our cast of characters captivates audiences surprised to hear such stories in school settings. Our film introduces a transgender teenager kicked out of her house, a devout Christian challenging his church’s homophobia, and a girl who prefers to wear boys’ clothing even as she models dresses on the runway. When bombs explode outside their building, the troupe becomes even more determined to share their stories of love to help heal their city.
This year is the first year they dare to talk about love. Brave, inspiring, and funny…these are the inspiring LGBT youth that are leading us into the future.FESTIVALS 2015: Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Cinequest FESTIVAL TERRITORIES The World EXHIBITION FORMATS DCP, HDCAM, BluRay, DVD MORE INFO: theyearwethoughtaboutlove.com

| | ABOUT THE FILM: At the tender age of twelve, Roberto supported the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua and fought for education and social reforms. He was to continue his political struggle fighting alongside the communist Tupamaros in Uruguay. Thirty years later he is struggling to live his life as a woman named Stephanía and striving to be accepted by both society and his family. Documentary filmmaker Aldo Garay has followed Stephanía for over twenty years. In El Hombre Nuevo he provides a personal and tender portrait of a woman who can look back on a tempestuous life in which violence, drugs, prostitution and political commitment all found its place. Scenes from her day-to-day life are interspersed with interview material that includes conversations with old friends, fellow-travellers and siblings, as well as a passionate, heated exchange with her mother. The picture of society that emerges is as diverse as it is intimate, and spans a time of great political upheaval in the 1970s to the present day.FESTIVALS 2015: Berlin (World premiere, Teddy Award for Best Documentary) FESTIVAL TERRITORIES The World EXHIBITION FORMATS DCP, Blu-Ray MORE INFO: cordonfilms.com/peliculas/el-hombre-nuevo/la-pelicula Email us for screeners or streaming links. | |

ABOUT THE FILM:
In the 1950s, Tab Hunter is number one at the box office and number one on the music charts. He is Hollywood’s most sought-after star and America’s boy next door. Natalie Wood, Debbie Reynolds and Sophia Loren are just a few of the actresses he is romantically linked to. Nothing, it seems, can damage Tab Hunter’s career. Nothing, that is, except for the fact that Tab Hunter is secretly gay.
Now, Tab Hunter’s secret is out. In TAB HUNTER CONFIDENTIAL we will meet, for the first time, the real Tab Hunter as he shares with us the whole story of a happy, healthy survivor of Hollywood’s roller coaster.
Featuring Tab Hunter, John Waters, Clint Eastwood, George Takei, Debbie Reynolds, Robert Wagner, Portia de Rossi, Noah Wyle, Connie Stevens, and Robert Osborne
