Dear Programmers,
The Film Collaborative is excited to announce two new documentaries that offer very different takes on what it means to be an “outsider.” In the Sundance premiere KINK, producer James Franco (here teamed with director Christa Voros) continues his 2013 adventures into the many worlds of pornography with a look at the hardcore BDSM scene. In the Tribeca premiere GORE VIDAL: THE UNITED STATES OF AMNESIA, director Nicholas Wrathall offers a deeply insightful look into the life and legacy of one of the 20 century’s greatest iconoclasts, writer and cultural warrior Gore Vidal.

Producers James Franco, Vince Jolivette, Miles Levy
| | ABOUT THE FILM: If porn were high school, they’d be the goth table. Director Christina Voros and producer James Franco pull back the curtain on the fetish empire of Kink.com, the Internet’s largest producer of BDSM content. In a particularly obscure corner of an industry that operates largely out of public view, KINK’s directors and models strive for authenticity. In an enterprise often known for exploitative practices, KINK upholds an ironclad set of values to foster an environment that is safe, sane, and consensual. They aim to demystify the BDSM lifestyle, and to serve as an example and an educational resource for the BDSM community.
In KINK, we discover not only a fascinating and often misunderstood subculture, but also, in a career far from the mainstream, a group of intelligent, charismatic, and driven people who really, truly love what they do.FESTIVALS 2013: Sundance FESTIVAL TERRITORIES The World, Except for North America Click here for more information about this film.WEBSITE: http://kinkdoc.com Email us for screeners or streaming links.

| | ABOUT THE FILM: No twentieth-century figure has had a more profound effect on the worlds of literature, film, politics, historical debate, and the culture wars than Gore Vidal. Anchored by intimate one-on-one interviews with the man himself, Nicholas Wrathall’s new documentary is a fascinating and wholly entertaining portrait of the last lion of the age of American liberalism.
Commentary by those who knew him best—including filmmaker/nephew Burr Steers and the late Christopher Hitchens—blends with footage from Vidal’s legendary on-air career to remind us why he will forever stand as one of the most brilliant and fearless critics of our time.
Gore Vidal’s professional life spans more than 50 years of American politics and letters. His return to America in 2005 marked the last great stage in his creative career and this film represents an extraordinary opportunity to share his view on America in the twenty-first century. Featuring candid vérité footage of Vidal in his final years, the film explores his enduring global impact on art, politics, and everything in between. His overview of the current state of the Republic and the health of US democracy is unique and incisive.
This is Gore Vidal’s last word and testimony.FESTIVALS 2013: Tribeca, Independent Film Festival Boston, Frameline, Outfest Click here for more information about this film.WEBSITE: gorevidaldocumentary.com Email us for screeners or streaming links.
