Dear Sundance Filmmakers,
Happy New Year and congrats on Sundance!
We'd like to introduce you to THE FILM COLLABORATIVE (TFC), the first non-profit committed to distribution-education and facilitation of independent film. We offer a full range of affordable distribution and marketing advice and advocacy to independent filmmakers looking to reach out to traditionally underserved audiences.
2013 marks TFC's third anniversary since launching at Sundance in 2010. Since that time, we've helped over 350 filmmakers who have joined TFC as members, published a DIY distribution case study e-book, began offering a direct distribution service, provided a suite of free online resources for filmmakers (distripedia™), set up a fiscal sponsorship program and launched a legal services for filmmakers initiative.
We've worked with many former Sundance films, including The Invisible War, Undertow, We Were Here, Mosquita y Mari, An African Election, A Small Act, Shut Up Little Man!, A Fierce Green Fire, Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, and Valley of Saints.
TFC also maintains a blog that contains weekly posts on a variety of topics pertaining to independent film, including such recent posts as state of international sales for independent film, exhibition and delivery formats for 2013, and transmedia storytelling series.
Lastly, although we did a big shoutout to The Invisible War in our last newsletter, the film continues to impress in 2013 with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Documentary Feature and the news that, thanks to the film, Congress will hold hearings on sexual abuse in military as soon as this month.
We will be in attendance in Sundance Janurary 17 - 23 and look forward to seeing you there!
Best regards,
