ABOUT THE PROJECT
Two Vermont girls, Samantha and Jessamine, are each other’s everything. Their small-town way of life is suddenly jeopardized by two out-of-staters: Jess’s new fiancé and a corporation threatening Vermont’s age-old maple syrup industry.
SYNOPSIS / DESCRIPTION
SOULMATE(S) explores the uncharted “coming of age” territory of two girls living together in their post-college, soul-searching time. Type-A planner, Samantha O’Sullivan, and her best friend, free-spirited Jessamine Parker, are two Vermont girls living in perfect harmony; supporting each other in a marriage-like relationship; and sharing their entire lives…including a bunk bed. When the girls discover that Jess’ new fiancé works for the enemy (the new corporate syrup company), their marriage-like relationship hits an impossible obstacle. While Jess is busy fighting to keep her relationship despite the corporate takeover; Sam is busy with her own fight to save her best friend from choosing the wrong soulmate.
Sam’s To-Do List:
1) Drudge up a drunken college pact where Sam and Jess swore to get married at the same time—stall the wedding! 2) Figure out what the fiancé is hiding; and 3) Keep those Flatlanders out of her backyard and her best friend.
Jess’ To-Do List:
1) Stop the Peterson Corporation from destroying Vermont’s maple industry; 2) Find Sam a man, so Jess can go forward with her wedding; and 3) Turn her Flatlander fiancé, Landon, into a Vermonter.
The to-do lists seemed simple, but as all Vermonters know, seasons change. In the end, Jess has to stop living her life for everyone else before she’s truly ready for marriage; and Sam has to let go of her “marriage” to her best friend in order to be a best friend.
