“Community Conversations” Film Series — new touring program for 2019

The Film Collaborative is pleased to announce the Community Conversations Film Series, a touring program for filmmakers in response to the NEA published report "State of the Field: A Report from the Documentary Sustainability Summit.” This program is being supported by a $20,000 grant from the NEA. The series will bring filmmakers, local communities, colleges and universities together to view films from a selection of curated works and participate in facilitated group discussions.

The Film Collaborative will run the Community Conversations program with curation consulting provided by New Day Films. Projects by filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, cultures and political perspectives will be selected and the filmmakers will travel to schools and other program partners in Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas during the 2019-2020 school year.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association Restoration Summit

If you (and a guest) would like to attend The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Film Restoration Summit: The Global Effort to Preserve Our Heritage on Sat. Mar. 9 at 4pm at the Ace Hotel in L.A., please RVSP here.

The Panel includes Jane Fonda, Thierry Frémaux, Alexander Payne, Jan-Christopher Horak and Grover Crisp, and is moderated by Sandra Schulberg.

POC2 (Programmers of Colour Collective)

In case you missed it, an Inclusive Film Festival Programming Initiative to stimulate conversation around the underrepresentation of people of color in film programming launched at Sundance this year. Founding members include Paul Struthers (Director of Exhibition & Programming at Frameline), Hussain Currimbhoy (Programmer, Sundance) Lucy Mukerjee (Senior Programmer, Tribeca), and Themba Bhebhe (EFM Diversity & Inclusion).

  • Orly Ravid will participate in the SXSW Mentor Session “Sales, Acquisitions, and Distribution” on Sunday, March 10th at 3:30 - 4:45pm in the Stephen F. Austin Ballroom A, 701 Congress Ave. (Note: Platinum Badge or Film Badge is required, and one must book one’s slot in advance)
  • In early February, Orly Ravid was a marketing panelist at a PGA workshop entitled “Introduction to Social Impact Entertainment,” presented by the Social Impact Entertainment Task Force and PGA West Education Committee.
